Betty Spencer Lowe passed away July 8, 2024.
She is predeceased by her husband, Clark “Buddy” Lowe, her sister-in-law, Pauline Spencer, and her parents Virginia and Willard Spencer.
She is survived by her sister, Margie Hartley, (Buck) of Waynesboro Virginia, her brother William “Bill” Spencer of Cary, NC, her son, John “Jay” Lowe (Beth Sprinkle), of Chesterfield, Sandra Dusel (Pete), of Ontario, New York, her granddaughter, Lyta Dusel, of Syracuse, New York, grandsons Spencer and Christopher Lowe of Richmond, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews..
Betty was raised in Farmville, Virginia and loved life in the country. She married her high school sweetheart, Buddy, and they had 62 years of happiness together. She spent her adult life in the Richmond area. Betty completed two years of business school and worked for Allied Chemical in Human Resources where she traveled the country hiring employees. She loved to tell stories about the people she met in her travels. She had a very strong faith and was involved for many years at Beulah United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Crusaders (Adult Sunday School), the women’s auxiliary and loved the annual bizarre that the church held so she could sell the hand cream she loved to make. She never missed an opportunity to sing, no matter what the occasion.
After her retirement from Allied Chemical, she and Buddy owned a frame shop in Colonial Heights and enjoyed transforming art into works of art with a frame. She collected a number of works from P. Buckley Moss and was a member of the P. Buckley Moss Society for years.
Betty and Buddy liked to travel and had several trips that made memories that she loved to share. Their trip to Alaska inspired many tales of new people and fun adventures. They loved time with family and spent lots of hours on the deck having family meals and relaxing as she admired her garden and flowers. Any occasion to have fresh flowers made her happy. She enjoyed making jewelry, decorating, shopping and was a great neighbor.
The family would like to thank Sunrise at Bon Air for their care of Betty in the last few years. She had a wonderful private caregiver who was a blessing to her and the family. Thank you so very much Julie for your spirit and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, the SPCA or a charity of your choosing.
